Gregory Bryant-Bey has been sentenced to death by lethal injection for the aggravated robbery and murder of Dale Pinkelman, a Toledo businessman who owned Pinky's Collectibles. He was also convicted and sentenced to life without parole for the aggravated robbery and murder of Peter Mihas, a Toledo restaurateur.
While Mr. Bryant-Bey's crimes are deplorable, he had many mitigating circumstances that were considered during his clemency hearing. He suffered through a difficult childhood in which he was twice abandoned by his biological mother and suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his adoptive mother. During his murder trial he had a mental health assessment and was diagnosed with asocial, paranoid, and schizoid personality disorders. While in prison, Mr. Bryant-Bey made a positive impact on others, especially with fellow death row inmates. He taught others to read and understand the Bible, in addition to having a good work ethic. Mr. Bryant-Bey has tried to redeem himself and even though he should never leave the confines of prison his death will not bring Mr. Pinkelman and Mr. Mihas back.
